Healthy, glowing skin starts with a curated skincare routine. When you know your skin type and find the right products, you’ll know how to take proper care of your skin to prevent dryness, blemishes, acne, and more!
Beauty trends are shifting their focus to more natural skincare products, so we’ll show you 3 steps to building your perfect routine and getting beautiful skin, naturally!
Step One: Know Your Skin Type
This is an important step that sets the foundation of your routine. There are five different skin types:
Dry: Rough, flaky, and uncomfortably tight after cleansing.
Oily: Shiny and greasy, with some noticeable pores.
Combination: Usually dry in the cheeks, and oily on the forehead, nose, and chin.
Sensitive: Stings and burns after using certain skincare/makeup products.
Normal: Balanced, no blemishes, and no sensitivity.
Step Two: Choose The Right Products
Once you have established your skin type, it’s time to start shopping for the right products. A great skincare routine starts with three components: Cleanser, Exfoliator, and Moisturizer.
Cleanser: This is the product you use to wash your skin at the end of the day. For dry skin, use a creamy cleanser. Oily and combination skin may want to use a cleanser with oil/acne fighters, like salicylic acid. There are also cleansers formulated for specifically for sensitive skin.
Exfoliator: This is a gentle scrub used to remove the outer layer of dead skin. Exfoliators should be used 1-3 times per week depending on your skin type. This step is important to renew your skin for a healthy glow.
Moisturizer: Moisturizing is so important! For dry skin, use a heavier cream that locks in moisture. Oily and combination skin types should also moisturize to maintain balance. Use an oil-free moisturizer that lightly hydrates skin.
Regardless of your skin type, pay attention to the ingredients on the label. When making a change to natural skincare, you’ll want to find products made mostly with ingredients you can understand and pronounce. Many natural products are also made with organic ingredients, and can be certified by an organization with a special seal.
Step Three: Maintain Your Routine
When you have your products set, maintain your routine! Sticking to a regular schedule means your skin will be at it’s best. Cleanse, exfoliate, and moisturize at the end of the day to remove makeup, dirt, and oils that accumulate daily. This allows your skin to breathe and recharge itself overnight. If you find that your skin feels greasy in the morning, you may find that a light cleanse is just enough to refresh your skin.
